Statement of Beliefs

The kingdom of God is the central theological foundation that gives definition to what we do.

GOD

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three are co-eternal in being and nature, co-equal in power and glory, and have the same attributes and perfections. We believe that God is perfect in steadfast love and faithfulness, and He demonstrates, in His nature, perfect relationship (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14).

THE PERSON & WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the Holy Spirit: the third person of the Triune God who convicts the world of sin. He is the supernatural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, distributing spiritual gifts, and establishing each member of the body where He wills. We believe the Spirit to be a seal of all that God has promised to those who love Him and a down payment and guarantee of all He has promised to do. He is the abiding counselor of the church and God’s empowering presence among us and in us (John 16:8-11; 2 Corinthians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18).

MAN

We believe man was created in the image and likeness of God. Through Adam’s sin, the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Mankind is sinful by nature and choice. Every part of the human existence has been marred by sin and is in need of redemption. Man, in himself, is unable to remedy his lost condition and is separated from God and spiritually dead (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23, 5:12; Ephesians 2:1-3, 2:12).

ETERNAL SECURITY & ASSURANCE OF BELIEVERS

We believe all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and, thus, are secure in Christ forever (John 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 8:38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:5). We believe it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word which clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to sin (Romans 13:13-14; Galatians 5:13; Titus 2:11-15).

THE CHURCH

We believe the church, which is the body and bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons (Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:25-27; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 11:2). We believe the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament (Acts 14:27, 18:22, 20:17; 1 Timothy 3:1-3; Titus 1:5-11). We believe in the autonomy of the local churches, free of any external authority and control (Acts 13:1-4, 15:19-31, 20:28; Romans 16:1, 1:4; 1 Corinthians 3:9, 3:16, 5:4-7, 5:13; 1 Peter 5:1-4). We recognize the believerʼs baptism and the Lordʼs Supper as scriptural means of testimony for the church (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42, 18:8; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

THE PERSON & WORK OF CHRIST

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man (John 1:1-2, 1:14; Luke 1:35). We believe the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His sinless life and His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and that our justification is made sure by His literal and physical resurrection from the dead (Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 1:3-5, 2:24; Ephesians 1:7). We believe the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate. We believe that He will return bodily, in glory, to judge the living and the dead (Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 7:25, 9:24; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2).

THE BIBLE

We believe the writings of the Old and New Testaments are the verbally inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible, and God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12-13).

SALVATION

We believe salvation, or eternal life, is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in Jesus Christ who died on a cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Salvation is from the heart of God the Father, who, out of His great love for a fallen world, sent His only son to be the payment for sin to restore not only humanity, but all of creation. Eternal life begins at the moment of belief and will be completed at the glorious return of Jesus (Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10; John 1:12; 1 Peter 1:18-19; John 3:16; Revelation 21:1-4).

THE MINISTRY & SPIRITUAL GIFTS

We believe God is sovereign in bestowing spiritual gifts. It is, however, the believer’s responsibility to strive to develop their sovereignly given spiritual gift(s). The baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at conversion and joins the believer to the body of Christ. We believe the baptism of the Spirit is a repeatable event in the life of the believer and is to be desired, not feared. We believe particular spiritual gifts are not essential, nor do they prove the presence of the Holy Spirit. We believe it is the privilege and responsibility of every believer to minister according to the gift(s) and grace of God given to them (Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 13; 1 Peter 4:10-11).

THE KINGDOM OF GOD

We believe the message of the kingdom of God was the primary message proclaimed and demonstrated by Jesus and the Apostles. The kingdom of God is not the PLACE where God reigns but it is the FACT that God reigns. We believe that creation was called good and never called anything else. However, man, through sin, gave dominion over the Earth to a malevolent spiritual being the Bible calls Satan. The message of the kingdom of God is that God is now taking back His good creation. In the ministry of Jesus, God’s rule and reign was demonstrated and proclaimed. By His death on the cross, the dominion of Satan was broken. At His return, Satan and those who follow him will endure eternal judgment. Until that time, Jesus’ church lives between the times, continuing the proclamation and demonstration of the loving rule and reign of Jesus.

Our Story

We are building a multicultural, multi-generational church that plants churches throughout Northern Virginia.

In 2013, we launched in Pastor Jeff’s hometown of Falls Church, VA. What started out as a small gathering of launch team members, is now a growing church that’s making a difference in our community.

We’re excited about all that God is doing at Skyline, and we’d love for you to be a part of it.

Online Giving

We are called by God to serve our community, and your giving makes this possible. We commit to being responsible stewards of your generosity.

Most of our supporters give online. It’s fast, easy, and secure.
